Destillationen - "Caro mi Benn"

Destillationen (2017) for soprano, piano, live electronics and playback. Song cycle based on the book of poems of the same name by Gottfried Benn (I. Aprèslude, II. Eure Etüden, III. Nur zwei Dinge, IV. Was man nennt).

The works of the expressionist poet Gottfried Benn have occupied me for many years. I have set "Aprèslude", my favorite poem, to music in two different ways, both as an instrumental ensemble piece and as part of an experimental song cycle.

Excerpts from original radio recordings with Gottfried Benn and a jukebox with his favorite hit "Im Hafen von Adano" were used for the recordings. The composition was supported in 2017 as part of my series "Remix Letters" by the Initiative neue Musik of the Berlin Senate as part of the Month of Contemporary Music. Performance venues included the Wabe Berlin and the cultural center O' Culto da Ajuda in Lisbon (with the kind support of the Goethe Institute).
